  yellow belt test
Posted by: d_spencer - 06-30-2017, 04:12 PM - Forum: Japanese & Okinawan Martial Arts - Replies (7)

So I have some family members that do karate in mustang oklahoma, the name of the school is Tori Karate. I saw on a Facebook video their yellow belt test. Im curious as to how many schools out their have the same standards for yellow belt.  For their test they had to perform three Basic H style katas and then they where asked four questions. The first was what is the meaning of the tiger and #2 what is the meaning of the dragon, #3 who is the founder of karate in America, #3 what is the name of your karate style. they then where promoted from white belt to yellow belt.  Is this something any of you have seen before, my tests for yellow belt are much much different then this.

S.P.E.A.R. Certification - Is it worth the time and money?
Posted by: Conrad - 05-13-2017, 03:23 AM - Forum: General Martial Arts - Replies (5)

I've been researching Blauer's S.P.E.A.R System and flirting with the idea of pursuing it.  Does anyone here have any thoughts?  I believe Kong Soo Do Karate got the certification at one point.  Do you think it is worth it?

I've changed from Kong Soo Do to Kong Soo Do Karate.  This is to honor both the Korean and the Okinawan roots that have gone into my training.  Although a bit redundant, I feel it honors both lineages.

  Women's Self Defense Course
Posted by: Kong Soo Do Karate - 03-17-2017, 11:45 AM - Forum: Self-defense - Replies (15)

I've been asked to teach a woman's self defense course.  I've done so in the past and have my outline but would like to solicit any additional information, links, videos etc from the membership to look at to add to what I already have prepared.  Always want to see if there is something I've missed, something that can be improved etc.

My areas are home, travel and personal defense to include hands-on, conventional weapons to include firearms and improvised weapons.

Thank you.
